Ration Book Year - Day 1

Today is the first day of my Rationing year. Every 2 months will represent 1 year. I am starting in 1940 because in 1939 they didn't have any food rationing, hence the phrase 'phoney war'.
One week's ration for one adult.

The first meal of my rationed diet i had was corned beef fritters with 2 slices of wholemeal bread and butter and one apple for pudding.

from the book 'We'll Eat Again'

I actually really enjoyed it, but i must admit since having my lunch i am feeling rather peckish but i suppose it's because I've got to get used to not eating as much as i normally do.

As i have restricted myself to no television and little computer this is what i shall be reading a lot of.

I've actually really been enjoying the Cazalets: the light years on BBC 4.

Ta ta for now! Until tomorrow!

  1. Way to go!! I've always wanted to do these vintage resolutions or challenges just to see what it'd be like to experience life back then.

  2. Good luck with this endeavor of yours! It sounds like it will be mighty difficult to keep up for an entire year, but I am very interested to see how you get on! It will be interesting to hear about the other rationing you're doing as well, with the restricting television and other products; I hope you'll discuss that as well!
